Are you among the roughly 6 million American women, having trouble getting pregnant and asking, “Why can’t I conceive?” If you find yourself feeling powerless then it’s good to know that the conditions that favor your fertility, or destroy it are more under your control than you realize. Conventional medicine has it’s place but doctors are finding out that some of the conditions that have had them scratching their heads are the body’s warning signs that it is not working in the best environment to encourage fertility. Before you brand yourself “infertile” or go too high-tech with fertility treatments take care of these basic areas mentioned below and provide your body with what it needs to function at optimum performance, bring itself back into balance and protect your monthly cycle fertility.
Why Protect My Monthly Cycles
A women protecting her monthly cycle fertility is a woman that
- desires to restore her monthly cycle fertility so she can have her baby now or sometime in the future.
- wants to develop a way of living that ensures that trying to become pregnant is not the traumatic event that it has become for so many women.
- is healing from the inside out, and knows that even with a band-aid healing takes time.
Protecting My Monthly Cycles from What?
We are not living in the days of rising with the sun, demanding physical labor throughout the day, drinking water fresh from the spring and eating produce picked from the manure-fertilized fields,. Women can no longer take their fertility or reproductive health for granted. Industrialization has created one of the greatest challenges to fertility we yet face. From the moment you step out of your front door, till you come home and rise the next morning, you are awash in toxins. All of them in one way or another are unnatural and interfere with normal body function and the hormones which form the bedrock of your monthly cycle.
The Dangers of a Toxic Environment
Hormone “mimics”: These can get in the way of how your hormones “talk” to your cells, how your cells respond to messages, or can even give your cells false messages. These hormones mimics are in chemical petroleum based pesticides, herbicides, solvents (e.g., in paint) and glues, aerosols (like spray air fresheners, and car exhausts, among others. They can mimic different hormones but most of these hormone mimics act like estrogen.
Toxic metals: Lead, mercury, cadmium and other chemicals of industrial activity can seep into the water, and soil, and find their way into our food chain and any soil-grown products. Or they are absorbed through the skin.
The Dangers of Highly Processed Anything. Not counting the fact that processing refines the food until it has practically no nutritional benefit left, those extra long “best before” dates means something has to be added to them, including salt, sugar and trans-fats for extra flavor, and to “guarantee” a long shelf life and you can betcha it’s not angel dust. Federal testing and approval means that most of those “life-preserving” chemicals are meant to be safe, but think of all the foods you are consuming in
— a day;
— a week;
— a month, that come out of a tin, can or packet multiplied by all those lovely chemicals and preservatives, and you probably have an accident waiting to happen.
More culprits: Over-the-counter-medication, prescription drugs, recreational drugs. The logic of medication is that it does more damage to whatever it’s trying to treat than it does to your body. Alcohol and cigarettes are also on the danger list. This chemicals overload can overtax the liver, which also breaks down any estrogen you don’t need. So an overworked liver is in no condition to properly break down estrogen or adequately eliminate toxins.
Relationships can be toxic; your work environment can be toxic, even your thoughts can be toxic if they produce a constant state of negative stress and have a depressing influence of your state of health. Your human machinery is designed to withstand a whole deal of stress. We know that some stress, some tension is good; it keeps us fighting strong. But too much of a good thing will kill ya.
What to do to Protect My Monthly Cycles
Fertility is a matter of health. You are not trying to birth a new species or reinvent the wheel. Your reproductive cycle is one among many natural processes of the human body. If one system is down it affects the others. Sick cells have “defective hearing”. They are hampered in their ability to correctly interpret hormonal messages, or unable to adequately respond. Bringing your body back into health is key to making sure your reproductive cycle is working the way that it should.
Nutrition, not diet. Many women hear the word diet and already feel defeated. But diet is not nutrition; nutrition supports your body’s natural health-giving, life–sustaining processes. What you eat is your ally. What you put in your mouth will determine what is available to your body to
- manufacture hormones and enzymes;
- repair and replace damaged or worn out cells and tissues;
- rebuild the fragile surrounding barrier of your cell membranes;
- provide energy for life-sustaining processes;
- enhance or suppress your natural infection fighting capabilities.
- breathe.
Healthy Elimination, for restoring internal balance, not just detoxification. Detoxification is a start. Your body is equipped to remove toxins, both created by the body and taken in from the environment, and prevents them from clogging up your system. But an overloaded system means toxins are becoming backed up, and what your body can’t get rid of it stores. Your toxin removal centers—liver, gut (colon), skin, lungs and kidneys, need to be kept humming so that getting rid of toxins does not become a Herculean task.
Healthy Activity, not just exercise. What do you need to be able to perform your daily activities without feeling strained, fatigued, breathless, worn out and still have a reserve of energy in case of any unexpected emergencies? Don’t think weight-loss, think efficient performance. This is what you want to achieve both internally and externally, so that your body does not need to keep on borrowing energy, i.e., robbing Peter to pay Paul, from one process to take care of another in order to keep you going.
Give yourself time and permission to heal. You’ll need to shake off the culture of “everything now, now! …No Yesterday!” Your body contains 10s of trillions [1 trillion = 1,000,000,000,000] of constantly dividing cells though dividing at different rates. 90% of your body is renewed in roughly a year. Let your body be your guide, and trust your instincts.
Although every woman is different you might not like to wait till problems crop up to protect your fertility. And if you have trouble conceiving taking care of the areas mentioned above may be just what you need to put you on the road back to fertiliy.
